Instrumental Program
Shasta High School’s Instrumental Program is directed by Mr. JORDAN PALMER.
Jordan Palmer (jpalmer@suhsd.net) is the director of the instrumental program at Shasta High School. He began playing percussion in the fifth grade, and involvement in band would quickly become one of the most important pieces of his life. Jordan had a middle school music teacher who greatly inspired him to be the person he is today. He wants to be a teacher who inspires a love of music and community in his students, above anything else.
It through music that Jordan has had his closest relationships, including his wife, Abigail, whom he met in college while she completed her vocal performance degree. They now have 2 children, William and Evelyn. Jordan began his teaching career in Redding, CA at Pacheco School teaching 4th-8th grade music, primarily band. In just 4 years at Pacheco, he grew the program to over a third of the student body, earning Superiors at CMEA Region II Festivals and taking several students to the Northern Section Honor Bands. On his own time, Jordan continues to enjoy performing music with community ensembles where he often focuses on secondary instruments.
The instrumental program consists of four different groups:
Concert Band, Band I
Symphonic Band, Band II
Jazz Ambassadors, Jazz Band
Orchestra
Shasta High School is one of the very few music departments in Northern California that perform musicals with a live orchestra instead of a pre-recorded soundtrack. The Choir Program is fortunate to be working alongside them every year for our annual Musical and Madrigal Dinner.
Throughout the years, numerous instrumentalists have also been part of the choir program. If you’re considering enrolling in both classes, we recommend speaking with an academic counselor to ensure there are no scheduling conflicts or graduation requirements.
